We travelled to Burwash today for what was to prove a gritty hard game.

There’s games when a team can praise the ref, games when they can’t and also games when everyone at the ground questions the validity of having one on the pitch.

Sadly, this was the latter, which spoilt what would have been an enjoyable game.

There wasn’t much in the way for either team, but frustration built up and Ben Mersh deputising as captain for Lee Finnigan lost his cool and saw red, literally by the referee, putting us down to 10 men.

Neil Sutcliffe and Sam Cook switched it up half time with a change of shape and players. We started to build fragments of pressure and created several chances.

It wasn’t till the dying minutes however until the deadlock was finally broken with a goal from Division 4 Top Scorer Connor Easton nodding in a Lee Finnigan ball.

The Chopbacks had to dig deep and defend for the dying couple of minutes, but kept the clean sheet.

It was a very kind gesture of Burwash to invite us back to their pub and we gladly accepted.

The performance of Burwash today didn’t reflect their league position, they will get points playing like that.

As for SCA, another win, clean sheet and a move up to 3rd in the league with a game in hand.

Happy Saturday everyone
