Chopbacks battle to opening day victory

The opening day of the season saw the Chopbacks face Battle Town II.

After a mixed preseason the Chopbacks were looking to get their heads down and start the season well with new team captain Brad Owens wanting to get off to a winning start.

The first half ended with the Chopbacks going in 2-0 up after David Burch latched onto a loose ball and a Nick Gamble freekick that cannoned in off the crossbar.

The second half saw the Chopbacks increase their lead from a Nick Gamble bullet header from a corner kick but Battle Town II grabbed two quick goals back to make the game a close contest again.

However substitute Tyler Smith secured the points shortly afterwards making the final score a 4-2 victory to the Chopbacks.

The perfect start results wise but the Chopbacks will know they were far from their best and will look to improve as the season goes on.
